HETAS is the official body recognised by Government to approve solid fuel domestic heating appliances, fuels and services including the registration of competent installers and servicing businesses.
Why Use a HETAS Registered Installer?
- HETAS is the ONLY competent persons scheme for installation engineers specialising in solid fuels and wood biomass
- All registered installers are trained and assessed as competent
- The HETAS scheme covers the range of installation work that an installer may be involved with e.g. dry appliances, appliances with boilers, solid mineral, wood and wood biomass, re-lining of chimneys, hot water and heating systems
- HETAS provides technical and regulations support to registrants
- HETAS publishes lists of approved appliances, fuels and equipment to help the consumer, installers, designers and specifiers in choosing an installation to suit requirements whilst complying with Building Regulations and safety standards.
- HETAS also makes available lists of installers, sweeps, flue specialists and maintenance companies to maintain installations safely into the future
The HETAS “three tick” Logo is the Approval mark to be looked for in solid fuel domestic heating products and services. (HETAS Website)
Building Regulations and Certificate of Compliance
Most installation work relating to solid fuel, wood biomass and the associated systems for heating, controls, hot water etc. are subject to Building Regulations. Most work is notifiable to the Local Authority where you live.
In England and Wales, there are only two routes to legally install a domestic solid fuel, wood or biomass burning appliance. You can either use a registered installer who can self-certify that the work he does complies with the relevant Building Regulations, or apply to your local authority building control department for a building notice and pay the appropriate fee.
It is generally much simpler and cheaper to use a HETAS registered installer who will leave you with a Certificate of Compliance both as a record of the job and assurance that it complies with Building Regulations. A copy of the certificate is forwarded to HETAS who notify the local authority on your behalf.
