Carbon Neutral Fuel

Wood Stoves and the Environment

Carbon Neutral

Wood burning does not release any more carbon dioxide than the eventual biodegradation of the wood if it was not burned. Wood burning is therefore recognised as considered "carbon neutral" by the Carbon Trust.

Emissions from wood used as fuel contain virtually no sulphur dioxide and very low levels of nitrous oxides, so won't cause acid rain. If wood is seasoned for two years and burnt efficiently it gives off very low amounts of smoke particulates and the ash is an excellent fertiliser.

Solar Energy

Renewable Energy

Wood can truly be described as 'solar energy in a package' and thus a source of renewable energy. Providing the wood comes from a sustainable source and is burned in a clean and efficient appliance.

Energy Saving Trust

Energy Efficient

Everyone likes an open fire, but the efficiency of burning logs in a grate is very low. A modern wood-burning stove can run at over 80 per cent efficiency. So if you put your logs in a stove instead of on a fire you will benefit from at least three times the amount of heat.

Economical

It is not just the spiralling cost of gas and oil that makes wood a highly desirable and cheaper alternative. Modern wood burners are highly efficient meaning less wood is needed for the same heat. With a modern wood stove this saving will increase over time as other energy costs continue to rise.

The Healthy Option

"Solid fuel heating can greatly reduce condensation, eliminating household mould often associated with 'on/off' fires. Medical research has also shown that solid fuel heating can reduce the risk of hay fever, asthma and eczema." Source: The Solid Fuel Association.
